MLB Rankings: Week of May 30th

This week MLB fans witnessed the tribulations and triumph of the New York Mets’ Matt Harvey, the evaporation of the Chicago White Sox’ lead in the American League Central, and an old New York Yankees bingo team looking more and more like spring chickens ready to make the summer interesting in the American League East.

Despite giving up four earned runs in his previous start, Jake Arrieta won yet again. Chris Sale continues to dominate opposing lineups. If David Ortiz was the name of a wine, we would drink it! Big Papi only gets better with time. Jackie Bradley’s hit streak came to an end during a game in which he flew out to the warning track – twice. Xander Bogaerts, JBJ’s teammate, takes over with the longest hit streak (23 games) in MLB.

As this post is being written (8:15 PM) several MLB games are ongoing. At this point, our staff agrees the top three teams are unchanged, though the ordering is different. The Chicago Cubs remain the top dog, the San Francisco Giants finish a close second, and the Boston Red Sox round out the top three. The White Sox plummet with the greatest change in overall ranking (down seven spots). The Yankees boast the greatest leap in the rankings by moving up six spots. The Minnesota Twins play their way out of the basement, and the Atlanta Braves takeover as the League’s worst club.
