NFL Left Tackle Rankings

Jake DeWitt

Tier 1

1. Tyron Smith (Dallas Cowboys)
Smith is the prototypical left tackle every NFL franchise hopes to develop. First, he’s demonstrated extreme reliability having played in all but one game so far in his six-year career. The Cowboys’ mainstay has also shown improvement each season. Since his 2011 rookie season in which he allowed 9.5 sacks, Smith allowed just 19.5 sacks over the next four-plus seasons. One area of improvement: cut down on penalties.

2. Joe Thomas (Cleveland Browns)
Like Smith, Thomas is extremely durable. In his 10th season now, he’s played in all of 148 regular season games and has never allowed more than six sacks in any season.

3. Cordy Glenn (Buffalo Bills)
Glenn ranks in our top three simply because he projects to be as good as Smith and Thomas in a couple years. He certainly needs to reduce his penalties and sacks allowed, but his lack of Thomas-like statistics are due in part to a lack of consistency on the Bills’ offensive line. The addition of Richie Incognito last year surely helped Glenn’s performance.
